| The Wedding Singer, which premiered on Broadway in 2006, was nominated that year for the best musical Tony Award. Set in 1985, It is based on the 1998 film of the same name starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. Robby Hart is an extremely talented wedding singer, singing the hits of the 1980s at weddings and other celebrations. He lives in his sisters basement and sings in the band at the reception hall. His dreams of being a singer/songwriter are long gone, replaced now by a burning desire to get married. The problem is that no one seems to want to marry him. His fiancée doesnt show up on their wedding day, and his new friend, Julia, is engaged to a wealthy Wall Street broker.
